Possessing more of an interest in the textures of coral reefs and underwater caverns rather than silk or linen, Keith Powell moved to Florida with his sights set on a career in Marine Biology, never realizing the latent gift within him for interior design. It was by pure chance that Keith met an executive from Ralph Lauren where he was hired to set up an emerging chain of stores. As he brought beautiful works of art to life in the display windows of the Ralph Lauren stores, Keith discovered the natural talent he had for what he still saw as simply “putting things together.” The recognition and awards he received as a result of his work in the Ralph Lauren displays soon revealed to him that his knack for putting things together was much more of a gift and true talent than he’d ever imagined.
Empowered with the knowledge of his talent, years of design experience under his belt and a solid reputation within the design community, Keith left Ralph Lauren in 1988 to found his own design firm, VIU Design. The President of Ralph Lauren had so come to love his work thought, that he hired Keith back as a freelance designer the minute he handed in his resignation. Within the first year of embarking upon his solo business venture, Keith found himself in the company of clients such as Calvin Klein, Gucci,
Gianfranco Ferre, Gianni Versace, Tiffany & Co. and many other boutiques all requesting the “Powell touch” for their stores and window displays.
After building a successful career in store design and window display design, Keith sought a new challenge. When a Palm Beach Socialite and professional polo player asked Keith if he had any desire in completely re-designing and decorating his South Florida home, Keith willingly and confidently stepped up to the plate, accepting the challenge before him and never looked back. Following this design project, he quickly developed a strong and loyal client base in Palm Beach and the surrounding areas.
In 2007 Powell relocated his firm to the city of Miami Beach, Florida, A. Keith Powell Interior continues to maintain its presence and deliver completely unique custom design to clients from Newport Beach, California to Latin America were Powell has completed several large residential project including a 22,000 sq.ft.residence for a heavyweight-boxing champion. Powell was just honored in the summer of 2016 as one of the top 25 firms to hire in Miami by South Florida Luxury Guide. Fate has a way of dictating one’s path in life and though he was unaware of the destination when he started out on this journey, Keith now says, “I am thrilled to say I really love what I do. As strange as this may have sounded to me twenty years ago I can’t imagine doing anything else.”

Over the past 30 years Keith has contributed to charitable endeavors such as participating with The Kid Sanctuary Campus, The Red Cross Show Houses, The Norton Museum Table Setting Event, and feeding the homeless at All Saint’s Soup Kitchen just to name a few.
“I remember the first charity event I attended when I first moved to Palm Beach. It really affected me and made me realize how important it is to give something back to the community that has supported me over the years. When I had my two beautiful daughters, it only further punctuated the point of just how blessed I am. Helping others whether it be children, the homeless or veterans. These are the charities and groups that mean so much to me. I am humbled to have had such a great opportunity to help these folks with my time, talent or money.”
